Upcoming talks from the Arts Society Cranleigh

The Arts Society Cranleigh is providing talks on the fourth Wednesday of the month, at Cranleigh Arts Centre, at 2.00 pm and 7.30 pm.

Wednesday October 27th.

An illustrated talk – A Brief Story of Wine with David Wright.

Wine has been part of our global society for over 7,000 years, and this story tells of its origin and appearance in all societies across the Mediterranean and through Europe.

From the Kwevris of Georgia in 5,000 B.C., the Symposia in ancient Greece, the Thermopolia of Pompeii, to the hospices of Europe, the dining tables of fine society and our day-to-day life, wine has been ever present as a thread which binds us through time.

Saturday 13th November at 10.00 am.

Special Interest Morning: Leokadiya Kashperova and Stravinsky – with Dr Graham Griffiths

The story played on The Art Centre’s beautiful piano, of our speaker’s research into this relatively unknown hugely talented female Russian composer.

Wednesday 24th November:

The Housekeeper’s Tale – the woman who really ran the country house.

We will hear about the housekeeper who for 50 years propped up the Bloomsbury set both in London and Sussex, with Tessa Boase.

No talk in December but –

Wednesday 8th December: Christmas dinner at Cranleigh Golf & Country Club (members only)

Tuesday 14th December: Christmas visit to Wisley Glow

Non-members are welcome to join us at a talk as a guest. No commitment, but a donation is appreciated.
