Half term fun ideas in (and around) Cranleigh

Half term fun ideas in (and around) Cranleigh

With half term in Cranleigh this week, and a less than happy looking weather forecast (!), we asked our community for some ideas.

Here are just a few half term fun ideas, in and around Cranleigh, to keep the children entertained this week.

Are you a fan of LEGO bricks? Ever wondered what it was like to build with thousands of bricks, surrounded by other official LEGO creations and custom builds by other LEGO fans?

The BRICK People are coming to Cranleigh Arts Centre on Wednesday 16th February 2022.

Book a session from 10am to 4pm, at only £5 per child. Under 16s must be accompanied by a grown up.

Nearby Leonardslee offers their “Beyond the Dolls’ House” exhibition this week.

This extensive collection depicts the Edwardian estate and neighbouring villages at 1:12 scale, with landscapes and characters acting out day-to-day activities. Exquisite in detail and accuracy, a six-foot-tall person is recreated as six inches in height.

You can find this famous exhibition located in the main courtyard and it is included in garden entry.

Painting pebbles is the ideal rainy half-term activity!

Cranleigh Rocks is a popular Facebook Group (1,300 members!) from Cranleigh in Bloom.

The game is simple; have fun hunting for painted pebbles in and around Cranleigh using the clues members leave in the group.

Once you find a painted pebble, take a photo and share it in the group. Hide the pebble somewhere else and leave a clue about the new location.

You could go bug hunting or bird watching in the Beryl Harvey Field.

The Beryl Harvey Field in Knowle Lane, was given to the Parish Council in 1970 by Mr Gordon Harvey in memory of his late wife. The field covers 3.5 acres and in 1987 the Council designated the southern end of the Beryl Harvey Field (around two acres) as a Conservation Area. The remaining 1.5 acres is laid to allotments.

The Conservation Area has been managed by Cranleigh and District Conservation Volunteers (CDCV) since 1987 as a wildlife area, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Co-operative Society Ltd. The group has installed bat and bird boxes and used natural materials to form woodland habitats for insects, small animals and birds.

Find the field by walking across Snoxhall Field.

The Cranleigh Telephone Box Book Exchange is another fantastic community initiative from Cranleigh in Bloom.

Volunteers painstakingly restored an adopted telephone box on Ewhurst Road (opposite the junction with Barhatch Road) and created a book exchange project.

Visit the phone box to choose a book, leave a book or swap a book.

If there is no space on the shelves to leave a book, please try again another day.

All members of the community are invited to become Book Exchange Caretakers; help to keep the bookshelves tidy, remove any damaged books, and report any issues to the Cranleigh in Bloom team.
