The Arts Society Cranleigh in September & October 2022

With no meeting for The Arts Society Cranleigh in August, we wanted to share with you the upcoming programme for September and October 2022.

On Wednesday 28th September 2022, the guest speaker is Jo Mabbutt with BEHIND THE LONDON LIVERY COMPANIES – OBJECTS AND STORIES

Jo is a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers and Freeman of the City of London.

Over the centuries, the Livery Companies of the City of London have accumulated fascinating treasures.

Rare and curious items reveal the stories behind some of the world’s oldest crafts and guilds which have kept pace with modern times and are still very relevant today.

On Wednesday 26th October 2022 we welcome Mark Meredith for CASTLES – THE UNQUENCHABLE THIRST OF WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST

Mark has a real passion for the history behind houses through the characters that conjoin to create them.

We are introduced to William Randolph Hearst who it is stated had accounted for 25% of the world’s art market activity during the 20s and 30s. Where was it all hoarded?

Through the unparalleled extravagance of the places he lived in and loved, we’ll take a dive into the extraordinary life of William Randolph Hearst.

Non-members are welcome to join us at a talk as a guest. No commitment, but a donation is appreciated.
