Experience Shakespeare in Cranleigh's Heart

Join us in Cranleigh for a Bard-inspired stroll through history and creativity with the Guildford Shakespeare Company (GSC)!

Celebrating 18 years of innovative theatre in 2024, GSC brings its unique blend of community spirit and educational outreach to the quaint streets of England’s largest village and the serene paths of Knowle Park.

Since its inception in 2006, GSC has been dedicated to crafting exceptional theatre experiences that are inclusive and accessible to all.

Co-founders Sarah Gobran and Matt Pinches envisioned a theatre that belonged to everyone, and they’ve more than realised that dream—transforming everything from churches to airliners into stages that connect audiences to the performance and the space around them.

With the turn of the year comes an exciting lineup, and we’re especially thrilled for the Shakespeare Walks this April.

Imagine wandering along Cranleigh’s charming High Street or the wild beauty of Knowle Park, each step bringing you closer to the words of the Bard, performed with passion by the actors of GSC.

It’s an immersive journey that promises to bring Shakespeare’s timeless tales to life in a way that’s as engaging as it is unique.

The community is the heart of GSC’s mission, with thousands of ‘free-to-access’ initiatives, including drama clubs and outreach programs, that touch the lives of those across the South East.

It’s a testament to the transformative power of theatre—a power that has earned GSC multiple awards for its contributions to charity, community support, and inclusivity.

So mark your calendars for a springtime adventure with GSC’s Shakespeare Walks in Cranleigh and Knowle Park.

It’s more than just a walk; it’s a celebration of theatre, community, and the enduring spirit of one of the greatest playwrights ever.

And the festivities don’t stop at the Shakespeare Walks! GSC has a whole season of theatrical magic planned.

The year kicks off with a fresh stage adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved “Pride & Prejudice,” promising to be a regal treat at Surrey’s largest Georgian church.

As the flowers bloom in April, GSC’s Young Company will spotlight the brilliant creativity of young talent with an original production penned by Theo Toksvig-Stewart.

But perhaps the most anticipated is the outdoor production of “Romeo & Juliet” in June.

Directed by GSC’s very own Matt Pinches, this isn’t just another rendition of the tragic love story. It’s a sweeping performance that will weave through the historic landmarks of Guildford, featuring a vibrant community chorus alongside professional actors—a true celebration of unity and storytelling.

And to wrap up the year, brace yourself for a thrilling Murder Mystery adventure, set against the backdrop of yet another extraordinary venue, following the success of this year’s winter show on a Boeing 747.

Whether you’re a lifelong theatre lover or new to the scene, GSC’s diverse program offers something for everyone, continuing to redefine the power and accessibility of theatre.

Don’t miss out on these captivating events that will entertain, inspire, and connect us all.
