Cranleigh’s Captain Tom

90-year-old John Menlove, Cranleigh resident and a member of Cranleigh Rotary, will be completing a ten-day sponsored walk around the Cricket Green on Cranleigh Common.

Starting on Monday 20th July at 10 am, John aims to complete one circuit of the Cricket Green each weekday, finishing on Friday 31st July.

John, who lives by the Common, is a well-known personality in the village. He commented:

I try to exercise every day come rain or shine, but this will be a challenge for me. If I can do more than ten laps over the ten days, I will.

John will be supported by members of Cranleigh Rotary.

Money raised during the sponsored walk will be donated to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care.

To donate, visit the JustGiving Page at https://bit.ly/3i61YMK, or send a cheque payable to Cranleigh Rotary to Cranleigh Rotary, Twin Peaks, The Common, Cranleigh, GU6 8SE.

Visit Cranleigh Common from Monday 20th July to Thursday 30th July between 10 am and 11 am, or on Friday 31st July at 2 pm.

John and members of Cranleigh Rotary will be happy to see you, at a ‘social distance’, at any of these times and accept donations. Look out for the Cranleigh Rotary Banner.

The event is organised in accordance with current Covid-19 guidance.
