Cranleigh Christmas lights set for a spectacular year

Cranleigh Christmas Lights Switch-On 2022

With only 129 days to go until Christmas, the Cranleigh Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce that the most recent winner of the quarterly 100 Club draw was Lynn Murray & Co, Solicitors.

The Chamber set up the Cranleigh 100 Club in 2000 to raise money to finance the purchase, repair, renewal, storage, and installation of the Christmas Lights.

Unlike most towns and villages, it is often a surprise to learn that Cranleigh businesses, not the local authority, fund the decorations that can cost as much as £20,000 each year.

Members of the 100 Club buy numbered tickets that go into a draw, with a quarterly winner. The balance of the fund is then carried forward to help fund the Christmas decorations.

Lynn Murray said:

I am delighted to have won. Like many residents and visitors, my family takes much pleasure in the Christmas light decorations and their switch on in November heralds the arrival of the festive season in Cranleigh.

Lynn generously donated her winnings to the Christmas lights funding, helping the Chamber’s fundraising target in 2021.

This year, the Chamber is delighted to announce the return of the popular and much-missed Christmas light clusters in the Maple Trees along the Common, which create a joyful approach to the High Street.

In addition, the Chamber has commissioned six new decorative lamppost motifs in the shape of the eponymous Cranleigh crane and basket so familiar to the community.
