The council’s Executive Committee will recommend to Full Council on 17 July that they approve plans to enhance the council’s facilities, which are managed by Places For People. The proposals include earmarking £3.2million to extend Godalming and Farnham Leisure Centres and a commitment to invest in leisure facilities in Cranleigh.

The proposals include a new extension to Farnham Leisure Centre, to incorporate a new soft play and climbing facilities for children, and extending Godalming Leisure Centre to provide additional gym space, a second dance studio and bigger member changing rooms. The proposal also includes a car park extension to support the expansion at Godalming Leisure Centre and the council is working with Broadwater School to explore how they can be provided.

In order to improve the leisure provision in Cranleigh and minimise any disruption to customers, the council thinks the best option is to build a new leisure centre on a different site. If the proposals are approved, more work will to be done to identify the most suitable location in Cranleigh and a consultation with local residents will be carried out.

The plans will now go to Full Council on 17 July, when a definitive decision on the next stages will be made.
